Home opener day. The papers finally filled in the capsule.

John Erzar’s Times Leader Week 3 preview (posted Thursday) and Steve Bennett’s Citizens’ Voice Gameface capsules (Friday morning) land on the same matchup: Wyoming Area at Berwick, both 1-1, 7 p.m. at Crispin Field. The series line is Berwick 22-6. Last year at Crispin it was 35-13 Dawgs. First meeting goes back to 1972.

The numbers the Voice has for Berwick are the ones that matter tonight. Brady Cleaver rushed for 162 and two scores at Pittston. Gavin Galutia added 120 and a score. Through two weeks the Dawgs have 564 rushing yards, six rushing touchdowns, and 7.2 yards per carry. Erzar’s board adds the second-half split: Berwick has outscored opponents 45-9 after the break.

Wyoming Area comes in off the 47-6 Hanover Area night. Luke Kopetchny — the Brown commit now under center — completed 10 of 16 for 140 yards and two touchdowns in the Voice’s two-game look, plus a pick-6 in that Hanover rout. Semaj Morris leads them on the ground. The Times Leader line is that both sides should look different by Week 10. Fair enough. Tonight is still about the first varsity lights at Crispin since last year’s district final.

Television is still Valley West at West Scranton on FOX56 / WQMY. Doyle and Ulicny are on GOAT Rocks / WHLM. Both papers are paywalled; the links are in Coverage.
