Friday night is here, and the Scranton Times-Tribune made the opener its Game of the Week: Berwick at North Pocono, 7 p.m. at Trojan Stadium.

That is not empty hype. North Pocono is the defending District 2 Class 4A champion off a 13-1 season. Berwick went 11-1 a year ago, reached the District 2 Class 3A final, and moved up to 4A for 2026. The Times Leader's Week 1 glance says the series sits Berwick 8-4 all-time and floats the idea that tonight could preview a district playoff rematch later.

FOX56's Robert Ide talked to both coaches Thursday. C.J. Curry talked about the target on Berwick's back and a group that has not coasted through the offseason. Greg Dolhon pointed back to the shared history, including that 1991 Eastern Conference title game, and called it a real cross-league rivalry again.

WVIA's Sports Voices hit the same matchup this morning. Ide called it a great one: quarterback back in Berwick, the featured back gone, a real defense; North Pocono with Cole West and work still to do up front.

The Citizens' Voice Week 1 capsule keeps the story simple on the Dawgs side: a committee in the backfield after Ty'Meere Wilkerson, sophomore Brady Cleaver back under center, and Gabe Decker as a defensive end who can bother District 2 quarterbacks. Joby Fawcett's Times-Tribune piece adds the same names and frames North Pocono around Chase Zimmerman and Cole West, the Cornell commit and returning all-state defender.

This morning the Voice also put Decker on its Week 1 WVC players-to-watch board — the only Berwick name in that roundup. Defensive end and tight end. Getting him involved on offense is part of how they want to look more balanced after Wilkerson. The Times-Tribune's separate LFC list names Zimmerman as the Trojan to circle tonight.

Those are the papers' lists, not a program depth chart. Until Berwick posts one, treat them as reporting.

Watch it on Friday Night Rivals (MYTV WQMY). Radio is on GOAT Rocks PA with the C.J. Curry Show at 6 and pregame at 6:30. First snap of a harder classification starts tonight.
