NEPA Football lists Crestwood at 1-1 in division and 1-7 overall after a 42-7 loss at Dallas on Oct. 16.

Final and records from the Citizens’ Voice, Oct. 23. Galutia 18 carries for 105 and three touchdowns. No full box score yet. Neither line is official.

Shiloh Escobar grew up a soccer kid. His father, Kevin, played professionally in Europe, and an uncle coached the high school soccer team. He moved to Berwick at 3, started flag football at 5, and put on pads at 7, but he still went back and forth between the two sports into ninth grade, Steve Bennett writes in the Citizens’ Voice Gameface feature.

C.J. Curry settled it. Escobar played for Curry on the junior high team in eighth grade, and when Curry took over the varsity, the soccer cleats went away. Escobar calls him a mentor and a father figure.

He played linebacker every game, learned the receiver routes on the side, and was a two-way starter as a junior until a torn ACL in the middle of October ended his season. Surgery came in November. Doctors told him nine to 12 months. He was running at six months and cleared for non-contact work at seven, in time for his senior fall.

Then Brady Cleaver got hurt. Berwick tried some Wildcat snaps, and Escobar told Curry he wanted the job. Curry handed him a packet of plays to study. He had never played the position. The offense started in a simpler Wing-T look and opened up after Pottsville. Escobar says three years in the system and his time at receiver, reading where the corner and safety sit, made the switch easier.

Berwick is at Crestwood tonight. Kickoff is 7 at Crestwood Stadium in Mountain Top. Dallas comes to Crispin next Friday.
