The Saturday papers put scorers next to the final.

Pottsville 39, Berwick 14 at Veterans’ Memorial. The Citizens’ Voice and the Republican Herald both posted full write-ups overnight. The Times Leader roundup has the same score. Shiloh Escobar was at quarterback — the Times Leader has Brady Cleaver unavailable after last week’s injury — and Escobar scored both Berwick touchdowns.

The first one tied it. After a Tide turnover on downs, Gavin Galutia ran for 11 and then 35 to the 1. Escobar scored from a yard and it was 7-7 in the first quarter. Late, four straight Escobar completions and a Galutia 7-yard run set first-and-goal, and Escobar scored from three. The Citizens’ Voice and the Republican Herald both have that late score at three yards. The Times Leader roundup says four. Desk uses three.

Pottsville’s night ran through Tommy Welsh’s first career start: 8-of-12 for 157 yards and three touchdowns. Shay Strencosky intercepted Escobar and returned it 19 yards, then caught a 27-yard score from Welsh on fourth-and-4. Donovann Durham had a 9-yard run, a 30-yard catch, and a 19-yard run. Andrew Allen hit from 35. Nick Huda caught one from 34. An improvised two-point, Welsh to Max Clews after a bobbled snap, made it 22-7 at the half.

The Republican Herald notes that after Pottsville linebacker Colin Kline was stretchered off with a serious leg injury, Berwick asked the Tide to pray together at midfield, and Mike Brennan praised it.

MaxPreps is still a final only. Quarters are blank and there is no full player box. There is still no public video from Veterans’ Memorial. Doyle and Ulicny stay on GOAT Rocks / WHLM. Berwick is 2-3 and 2-1 in conference. Pottsville is 2-3. Next Friday the Dawgs go to Hanover Area.
