Escobar on the board, and conference opens

The Voice put Shiloh Escobar on its Week 2 watch list. Times Leader finally posted the Berwick-Pittston capsule. Kick is 7 at Charley Trippi on radio, not TV.

Steve Bennett’s Citizens’ Voice Week 2 players-to-watch list has one Dawg on it: Shiloh Escobar. The Voice has him as a wide receiver who caught one pass for 45 yards last week at North Pocono and carried once. Gabe Decker was the Berwick name on the Week 1 board. Escobar is the name this week. Those are the paper’s lists, not a program depth chart.

The same Voice package posted the Week 2 WVC capsules this morning. Berwick at Pittston Area, series Berwick 36-2, last meeting Berwick 34-7 in 2021. Bennett’s capsule has Brady Cleaver at 217 passing and 145 rushing after the 30-0 hole, and Santino Capitano at 106 passing and 148 rushing with two scores for the Patriots, with Lucas LoPresto at 80 receiving plus a touchdown pass. Same opener numbers that were already in Wednesday’s bounce-back piece and Tom Robinson’s Sunday Dispatch recap. Not a second box score.

John Erzar’s Times Leader Week 2 preview finally landed too. Thursday’s Notes said it had not. It has now. Four 2025 playoff teams that lost openers — Berwick, Hanover Area, Pittston Area, Wyoming Area — with Berwick at Pittston and Hanover at Wyoming almost across the Susquehanna from each other. Erzar has the all-time series Berwick 37-2, only Patriot wins in 2003 and 2006, and a bottom line that both sides are better than what they showed in Week 1. Paywalled. Linked below.
