The Citizens' Voice released its 2026 Gameface package this morning, and the preseason Wyoming Valley Conference rankings have Berwick eighth of 12. Pittston Area is first, Dallas second.

That is a modest slot for a program that went 11-1 a year ago and played for a District 2 Class 3A title. The Dawgs moved up to 4A this season, a stiffer classification, and that is part of why the papers are cautious.

The statewide lists sit in the same neighborhood. PA Football News has Berwick as a Class 4A honorable mention. North Pocono is fourth in that poll. PennLive's Class 4A 10 has the Trojans 10th and does not list Berwick among the 10 or the teams to watch. Dallas is the other District 2 4A name those polls keep circling back to.

Friday still arrives on time. Berwick visits North Pocono at 7 p.m. at Trojan Stadium, on Friday Night Rivals (MYTV WQMY). North Pocono won a district title and a state playoff game last year. They are a popular preseason pick, and the opener is a real test.

The story on offense is the backfield. Ty'Meere Wilkerson graduated after carrying last year's attack. Coach C.J. Curry has talked about a committee. Brady Cleaver returns as a sophomore, more runner than passer for now. Gabe Decker is the one with an Army offer and a captain's C, and Berwick will need him involved if 4A is going to look like last year.

The papers have Gavin Galutia, Dayne Street, Brock Simms, and Landon Zapata in the tailback mix. That is their list, not a program depth chart. Until Berwick posts one, treat it as reporting, not gospel.

Eighth is a preseason line in a newspaper. Friday is the first chance to answer it.
